Fall 2011 Opportunities
Rock the Pen! is an interactive poetry workshop for middle and high school students and we bring this program directly into your classroom. The Bride has partnered with regional and nationally recognized spoken word arts to provide students with a forum to expound on issues they face in their daily lives. Students are introduced to and learn about spoken word structural and aesthetic forms. Each program includes a presentation of original work by a featured poet, Q&A exploring the themes presented in the work and the poet’s creative process. Students are given a writing exercise and offered an opportunity to share the work they created.
To schedule a visit to your school, class or afterschool program, call or email, Lisa Nelson-Haynes, Associate Director, 215-925-9914, ext. 21 or lisa@paintedbride.org. Requested donation is $50. per visit.
Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra is a hand-drumming percussion ensemble rooted in rhythm traditions from four corners of the world. It features 12 of the region’s most disciplined and renowned hand drummers who join together rhythms of the North Indian tabla, Afro-Cuban bata, west African djembe and Afro-Brazilian samba. The day’s activities will also include a Q&A with the musicians and students. Spoken Hand consistently offers an energetic and educational experience loved by children and adults.

Warmth and humor prevail in this spine-tingling alternative holiday tale for elementary and high school students.
